Waterlilies art and a bridge, a soothing mural in a memory care home bathing room. Mural by Ellen Leigh

Waterlilies Art

I got a call from one of my subscribers asking if I could paint a mural in a bathroom. Not just any bathroom, this one is in a convalescent home specializing in the care of people who have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. They had installed a special tub for their clients- they are seated in it, a door closes, it fills with water and the jets do a very thorough job of relaxing, massaging and scrubbing them clean. The mural was to be on the wall in a corner the client faces for the entire bath time, to give them something serene to view during the process. Something along the lines of Monet’s Waterlilies art was the inspiration for the work. They had a ‘not to exceed’ budget, so I planned a one day mural as one that would suit their needs and their budget, scheduled it, and proceeded.  Below are photos of the completed work.

I love Monet’s work- so soft and subtle. The impressionistic style allowed me to soften the details and do the work quickly, meeting the budget while still providing them with a lovely work of art.
