Work in Progress~ Colorado landscape painting
I had some open time this week, allowing me to spend some time in the studio working on some new paintings. I combined portions of several photos from last fall’s trip out to Colorado to create a composition I like. Below is a photo of yesterday’s progress- shapes blocked in, the beginnings of mountains, fields, a road and a small log cabin on this Colorado landscape painting.
Remembering coming around a bend in the road, seeing this scene before us. It was so serene with the lone log cabin by the side of the road. Low mountains stretched away and a line of aspens showed where the river was. Trough Road continued around the next hill. The meadows were filled with dried grasses, seed heads, sage and low brush. There was a barbed wire fence along the gravel road and a few birds. It was so very quiet for miles around.
I didn’t have quite as much time available today to work on it, but managed to add in some texture and details using some glazes and overlaying some color and shadow. The low mountains are starting to take shape.
I’ll have a bit more time to work on it tomorrow and post again.
