In April I finally got the go ahead to do some mural repairs at a local day care center. I had painted a few murals there previously (read about it here). They had a bathroom door moved and this impacted two of the murals, necessitating a bit of a re-do and touch up. I would need to do some mural repairs inside the bathroom, and on the wall outside where the original mural had a clothesline that appeared to be ‘tied’ to the now missing door frame.
So, I added in a prop for the clothesline, lengthened it, and pinned up some adorable little bathing suits- three, of course.
Inside the bathroom, it was simply a matter of painting out a partial fish, filling in the sand and touching it up a bit and adding in a couple of fishes and some seaweed.
Then, most recently- I got a call to come back and do another little touch up. One of the little tykes had noticed a ding on the wall and decided to peel off the paint. Apparently, instead of priming the filled in area, the wall paint had been painted directly over the patch. Paint doesn’t adhere well to joint compound or drywall paper, and so it peeled right off, leaving quite a size-able boo-boo.
It didn’t take long until I had it all patched up, primed and painted over like it never happened. Mural repairs are a challenge, but very satisfying when done well.
