This plain Jane nearly black mirror got a new look last week. Already firmly bolted to the wall, I taped it off and prepared to give it a make-over to make it a distressed finish mirror. It sits between two pieces I worked on previously off to either side. My task was to make this mirror coordinate with the two older pieces for a cohesive look.

First, I lightly sanded all surfaces and removed the dust.

Two coats of a soft creamy shade of paint followed, and the frame was allowed to dry overnight.

The next day I worked out all of my aggressions sanding, scraping and abusing the brand new paint, scratching through to the darker finish underneath. After cleaning up the debris and dust from that step, I followed by applying my trusty ‘old and crappy’ glaze and wiping that off of the high spots. Glaze is left behind in the scratches, dents and crevices, accentuating them.

Love this new look! How about you?
