Landscape Painting Techniques
After looking at my photos on Saturday, I was not happy with the shadows on the meadow- they were too flat and horizontal in direction. I felt that they should be on a slight angle toward the viewer, leading the eye into the painting. So much of the day was spent reworking the shadows and meadow grasses to fit the angle I had in mind.
I also added a light rosy glow to the sky along the horizon and towards the left side of the picture. It’s early morning here in the meadow, and I love that rosy glow and long shadows you get at that time of day.
The breeze ripples the grass in the meadow, like the waves on a lake.
I’ll need to add a few things to it for interest, a few clumps of shrubbery, a small tree or two and finish up with some individual grass blades, wildflowers perhaps but not a lot more. The background and middle ground are nearly complete, but not much has been done to the foreground and river, so I’ll be working on those this week too.
I hope you are enjoying watching this painting as it develops, and learning a bit about my landscape painting techniques- as always, comments are welcome!
It looks great! You really brightened up the picture. Nice work!
