Looking for some great murals for children’s rooms ideas? There are plenty of them out there, and plenty of them here on the blog. I paint a lot of murals for children’s rooms and the possibilities are only limited by your child’s interests. I’ve been painting murals for children’s rooms since 1997 and in that time I have only painted the same theme twice. Wow. That’s amazing!
I love it when parents call me and ask me to come and discuss a mural for their child’s room. Every child is different, and their interests are all so different. Usually mom or dad has an idea of what their child might like, but not always. That’s where this selection of ideas for children’s murals comes in. Here’s a dozen very different murals I’ve done in the last decade or two at the request of some mighty creative parents:
Murals for Children’s Rooms Ideas:
A pretty room for the grand kids when they visit: All the walls are painted above the wainscot with the gardens and landscaping surrounding grandma and grandpa’s house. Above is the pond on the property that Grandpa and the little ones fish in while the dog goes for her daily swim.
Dad is an avid golfer, so this little boy is too! A favorite hole on a favorite golf course is featured on one long wall of this young boy’s room. There’s a rear view of the boy lining up his next shot to get up on the green. There’s a lot of detail in this full wall mural that you can see better HERE.
This young lady was interested in all things equestrian. Skilled in dressage, she spent a lot of time with her horse and out at the stable practicing. So why not extend that love into her room? This room has been entirely wood grained, top to bottom, to look like the inside of a very nice riding stable. After determining furniture placement, I painted murals add to the theme for the room according to the young lady’s wish list. There are more photos on another blog post HERE.
What a fun idea for a play room. A cartoon-ish city scape on a concrete gray wall. This boy has a room full of Tonka Trucks and construction related toys and will spend hours playing on the floor with them. It was a natural to include a bunch of different road construction vehicles, signs and piles of earth all around this map using the letters of his name. Have fun looking at more photos on this POST.
This is a room for the little animal lover. Lots of African savannah animals in this simple mural. The animals are not quite realistic, not quite cartoons- in a softened landscape full of imagination. See the animals close up in this POST.
Here’s a room that was already done and just needed updating for a growing young lady. Children’s interests sure change as they grow, and this one had moved from loving all things flowery and sweet to a bolder look. The big flowers still worked for this teen, so using a bolder color on the closet with some graphic details to freshen the look made a huge difference. Before and after photos can be seen HERE.
One of the rare ones I’ve painted more than once, this solar system ceiling is certainly one that will grow with any child. A scattering of stars on a deep blue color-washed ceiling is the background for some beautiful artwork of all of the planets, the moon and sun. Interesting facts about each planet are hand lettered in white near each one. Did you know that the summers on one planet are 42 years long? This one brought out my inner nerd.
It was a blast to paint this one! Another full room mural, the theme for this one is dinosaurs. After painting in an entire prehistoric landscape for them with an exploding volcano, dozens of different dinosaurs emerged from their environment, including a huge T-rex stalking his prey.
I took my cues from the bedding in this pre-teen girl’s room with big graphic flowers, butterflies and a line from a favorite book. There is even a big, bold flower around the ceiling fixture in this room.
Some boys love trains, and some dads do too. Here’s a boy’s room filled with train theme murals- the landscape, lots of tracks, crossing gates, roads, and even a big railroad crossing sign. See more photos on this POST.
What little girl would not love to live in a castle? This room is outfitted with stone block walls with one wall crumbling away to show this story book tower off in the distance. I can see any girl loving to play dress up for hours in this room. A few more photos can be seen HERE.
These three little guys crack me up. Cartoons are such fun to paint- solid, saturated colors, expressive faces, simple designs. There’s a few additional photos on this POST.
There are tons of great ideas for murals in children’s rooms out there, these are just a few of the ones I’ve had the privilege of working on. As a child, I would have just loved to have many of these great rooms, how about you? Do you have any terrific murals for children’s rooms ideas? What theme would your child like to have in HIS or HER room?
Drop me a line in the comments below, I’d love your ideas!
I would love the barn for my room you do such beautiful work
Love the Barn and the castle!
