Perfect timing! Debbie at Ready, Step, Grow dashed off an e-mail to me requesting a new mural in the playroom there. They had painted all the walls in yellow and sky blue, and wanted to have a simple cartoon park mural painted on one wall above the playroom equipment. As always, she had an idea of what she wanted, but then just let me run with it and add my own interpretation.
Painting for children is always fun, and working with them in the same room is even more fun! Debbie and Chuck had fenced off the area for the children’s safety so they couldn’t get into the paints and equipment, and I had plenty of room to set up and paint away listening to story time, music and art time, snack time and play time while I worked. Every now and then I would turn around to find a few children intently watching, eyes wide. A quick smile would overcome their shyness, and we’d talk a bit before I needed to get back to work. I was there for a couple of mornings, just until nap-time (theirs’, not mine!)
The lower part of the wall below the cartoon park mural is a solid green, and since it will be subject to being bumped and nicked by the shelving and equipment as it is re-arranged and played with, it will be simple for them to touch it up when need arises.
