This is one of the most rewarding projects I worked on in 2005. It’s a marble barrel ceiling (6 feet wide and 25 feet long) in a hallway between the living room and dining room in a large home.
I met this home owner at a local plant nursery in the spring of this year- she noticed my decoratively painted van and asked for a card. She had been looking for someone to do something with this great architectural feature that wasn’t too over the top, and that fit in just perfectly with her decor. After looking at the project, I gave her my ideas, she loved them and hired me on the spot.
The ceiling is done in a marble trompe l’oeil to coordinate with the marble fireplace in the living room and marble floors in an adjoining sun room. The colors used also pull in the rosy tones of the tile in the hallway itself. The stenciled medallions echo the carved chandelier ceiling medallions in the adjoining rooms. Of course real marble would be cut in pieces and be planned out in a design to span a ceiling this size, so I planned out painted seams to give that effect.
I just love the way this project turned out, and so did the home owner- she has since had me work in six other rooms in the home!
WONDERFUL work, kinda takes your breath away!
