There’s always that one very useful piece of furniture in every cook’s kitchen. It may not have a lot of monetary value, but it is priceless in it’s function, and it fits just right in it’s assigned place.
I was asked by a client to update a simple storage cart she’d had for decades. It was beginning to show it’s years and seemed like it could be an excellent accent piece for her kitchen. Simple lines and a simple idea took it from plain to fabulous.
I removed the handles, towel bar and top, freshened up the finish on those, and painted the rest of the case a soft grey green before embellishing the doors with Queen Anne’s Lace, Dill and Wheat- a soft and loose design to coordinate with her kitchen decor. She loves it!
Here’s my must have storage piece in my kitchen:
It’s been the subject of a blog post before, a few years ago. This is it’s 3rd update in my possession. I used American Paint’s ‘Wild Horses’ color paint on it (discontinued now, but they have a new brown called ‘Leather Boots’ I would probably like better) Then layered on a warm black glaze to give it depth and richness. After over 30 years of the same ceramic knobs, I decided I’d like a change, but really couldn’t find ones I liked to coordinate with the simple lines of the dresser. I remembered I had some unfinished wood knobs down in my studio, stained them the right shade of butternut and used those. I’m in love with it again!
