Talk about inspiring!!!! My favorite guy took me on a wonderful trip out west last week to parts of Colorado and Utah and we had an amazing time. We flew into Denver and after spending a little time with my daughter and her beau, we drove off into the mountains and canyons- literally! Together we took well over a thousand photos of Colorado and Utah, some of which will be used as material for new paintings. Or we might just get them printed and framed to hang on our walls. Below are just a few of the photos for now. These certainly are not in any kind of order, just a taste of how beautiful it is out west.

We spent an entire day hiking and climbing in the Canyon lands National Park in Utah.

After driving all day, stopping to take photographs and driving more, we finally arrived in Mesa Verde at the end of the day.  We watched the sun set in Mesa Verde, before spending the night in the park at the lodge.

We spent an afternoon driving through the canyons of the Colorado National Monument. There was a beautiful view around every switchback.  We took tons of photos there.

The sunset in Arches National Park in Utah really lit up the rocks and mountains. Al got some beautiful shots of Delicate Arch close up, but there are so many gorgeous photos of it professionally taken, I won’t post his here- too many people in it.

This is the same Colorado River that carved the Grand Canyon- here just miles from it’s origin in the Colorado Rockies.

This is one of my favorite pictures- The Canyonlands under an arch lit by the morning light.

Here’s my guy taking a break alongside the Arkansas River in Colorado. This canyon was filled with granite, all sparkly in the sun.

This double rainbow over a canyon in the Colorado National Monument brought tears to my eyes. How beautiful!!! It remains one of my favorite memories of the trip.

Altogether it was an unforgettable vacation, the hardest part was forcing ourselves NOT to take too many pictures of Colorado and Utah- I’m not sure we were too successful at that. Each canyon and mountain range was so different from another. The landscapes, the rocks, the vegetation, climate- were all different! We drove through snow in the highest mountains, and we drove through tumbleweeds in the desert. We drove through the valleys and the bottoms of canyons, and we drove along the edges of canyons and ridges. I am in awe of how beautiful this country is, and I’ve only yet seen a very small part of it.
And now, the hard part- deciding what to paint first!
