This past week, I spent some time in the land of all things pink and frilly. I was asked to give a little girl’s room a more mature early teen look. The room was already beautifully painted by another artist. The client wanted to keep the big bold flowers on the pink walls. The closet was painted in a more ‘little girl’ look with flowery stripes. The solution was to make the stripes around the closet go away, and bring in a bolder look to coordinate with the big and airy flowers painted on a pink color-washed background.
Teen Girl’s Room
It took some sanding and three coats of white to completely cover the previous artwork and create the base color for a deep magenta color-wash. After that dried, I hand-painted some fun lettering for the young lady’s name, some meaningful words and a stylized vine growing up the side of the closet. The idea was to coordinate the flowers and lettering to the great artwork already there. I think it worked out well!
Mom plans a few other updates to the room- a bolder colored magenta duvet, artwork reflecting Clara’s more mature tastes, and window treatments that are a bit more teen and a lot less sweet and girly.
