I really enjoyed working on this memorial portrait. A wonderful young family man contacted me who wanted to do something very special for his wife, as a surprise. His wife’s mother had passed away many years earlier, and she had very few photos of her. Could I paint a vision of her in heaven, enjoying the things she loved in life? Of course, I had to try.
He gave me two photos to work from, but they were pretty clear ones, showing her face, her smile and inner beauty. I asked a few questions, and drew up a sketch:
He approved the idea, so I set to work on the memorial portrait. We e-mailed a few times with progress photos as I worked, so he could see the process as the work unfolded.
I really loved how it turned out, found the perfect frame for it, and made arrangements for delivery.
I really enjoy painting portraits. Most frequently, I work from photos. Good clear shots are important for a good result like this one.
