Mural painting is what I do best. When clients come to me with their dreams for their homes, I love working with them to incorporate their ideas into reality.
I’ve known this client for years! We originally met when I was first starting out in mural painting. I gave her a quote for work in her two small boys’ rooms and we discussed a possible third project, but she never had the work done. I must have impressed her though, because she sent several great referrals my way, and I did some work for every one of them. Every now and then she would call me, I would show her my most recent mural painting photos, we would discuss a project, but somehow it would be put off.
Finally, she called to tell me she and her family had moved and she had the perfect place for some of my magical work. She had kept in her mind a mural I had painted of a small town street filled with businesses. Each business told the story of a family interest or history. She loved that idea and wanted her own ‘Little Town’.
This mural painting is on a curved staircase. Each building tells a little bit about one of the family members or tells a little bit about their story. It’s a very fun and personal way to record some of a family’s history. Lots of fun details are included in each building, address numbers that represent significant dates in their history, family interests, and vocations.
Because of the hundreds of viewpoints this work can be viewed from, there is very little perspective in this work. I kept it to a very primitive impressionistic style with each building being just flat fronted in one point perspective.
That’s Jack’s vintage Charger Super Bee in his very own garage bay.
Jack collects old signs and garage memorabilia, so his building reflects that.
The couple’s favorite bed and breakfast retreat is the next building featured.
This is Carol’s realty business, Golden Key Realty. That’s her sitting behind the desk in the window.
The shop above sells antiques, another interest of hers.
One son has an avid interest in music, so his shop is a music store with his guitar in the window.
The other son has a candy store with a leaping frog motif, another interest of his.
I included a little chapel of the same name as the one they were married in. The address there is their wedding date.
And lastly, my little art gallery for my signature.
The work is softly faded out around the edges, and has a clear protective finish applied. This is especially needed on a busy staircase with small boys.
Absolutely a fun project- I had a blast doing this.
